Embracing our role as a humble partner with local government agencies is essential to advancing Medi-Cal goals and addressing local issues and interests. Throughout the years, we’ve concentrated on aligning efforts with the healthcare priorities set by our elected county supervisors, who are entrusted with making important decisions for the betterment of our communities.

To commemorate CenCal Health's 15th anniversary in San Luis Obispo County and 40th anniversary in Santa Barbara County, in December, the health plan was honored with two special recognitions extended by both counties’ governing bodies. The recognitions signify a remarkable honor for CenCal Health and uphold our objective of continuing to cultivate partnerships with them.

On December 4th, San Luis Obispo County 3rd District Supervisor and CenCal Health Board Member Dawn Ortiz-Legg presented our CEO Marina Owen with a Certificate of Recognition to observe CenCal Health’s 15 years of service. Similarly, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors marked CenCal Health’s 40th anniversary in the region by adopting a Board Resolution at their December 5th Board of Supervisors meeting. The resolution lauded the health plan as a cornerstone of the Santa Barbara County community’s healthcare for decades, providing essential services to residents in an exemplary manner.

During the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors’ adoption of the resolution celebrating CenCal Health’s 40th anniversary, Ms. Owen recognized the vision of Dr. Lawrence Hart, who had the foresight to create the health plan.

As the director of the Santa Barbara County Health Services Agency, Dr. Hart surveyed the local landscape and observed that patients on the Medi-Cal program did not have the same access to providers and services as other county residents. Dr. Hart’s leadership helped pursue local control of the Medi-Cal program, which, in turn, helped improve the health of Santa Barbara communities.

Supervisor Ortiz-Legg and her fellow Supervisors recognized CenCal Health’s 15 years of service in San Luis Obispo County with a Certificate of Recognition presented to Ms. Owen.
